Okcheonsa, a thousand-year-old temple located on Yeonhwasan Mountain in Gaecheon-myeon, Goseong-gun, is a branch temple of Ssanggyesa Temple, which is the 13th district of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, and was founded by Uisang in 670 AD. It was named Okcheonsa (Jade Spring Temple) because there is a spring with clear water behind the Daeungjeon Hall. It was rebuilt by National Preceptor Jingak Hyesim in 1208, destroyed during the Imjin War, and then rebuilt again by Hakmyeong and Ui-o in 1640. In 1883, Yongseong reconstructed it, and in 1919, Yeongho, the temple's lecturer, carried out two repairs. The buildings remaining to this day include Daeungjeon, Jabangnu Simgeomdang, Jeokmukdang, Myeongbujeon, Geumdang, Palsangjeon, and Nahanjeon, making it a large temple. Jabangnu is a building more than 300 years old, and Daeungjeon is a wooden building constructed in 1745. Among its artifacts is the Okcheonsa Imjamyong Banja, a bronze instrument made in Goryeo in 1252 and used in Buddhist rituals.
