Geumsansa is a historic and renowned temple, founded during the Baekje Period, which has continued a history of over 1400 years, illuminating the lamp of Dharma until today. It is located on the western foothills of Moaksan Mountain, which rises majestically in the middle of the Honam Plain. During the Jeongyujaeran (Second Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1597), it suffered hardships, including the complete destruction of all its buildings and over 40 hermitages within the complex due to arson by the Japanese army. However, many cultural assets were subsequently created and have been preserved to the present day. (Source: Geumsansa Website)
