To the south and west of Baeknyeonsa Temple, a historic temple where National Preceptor Wonmyo established the Baeknyeon Gyeolsa (Baeknyeon Lotus Society) during the Goryeo Dynasty, approximately 1,500 camellia trees grow naturally in a cluster, forming a forest. The Baeknyeonsa Camellia Forest was designated as Natural Monument No. 151 on December 7, 1962. The camellias here are native varieties that withstand the winter, blooming from January and reaching full bloom between March and April. The forest path is well-maintained as a walking trail, providing an excellent environment for visitors to explore. Beyond the camellia forest, which reaches about 7 meters in height, there is a narrow path leading to Dasan Chodang. This path is said to be the one Jeong Yak-yong (1762-1836) used when he traveled to and from Baeknyeonsa Temple. The camellia forest extending to Baeknyeonsa Temple is a historic forest path where Seon Master Choui, who was the head monk of Baeknyeonsa, and Dasan Jeong Yak-yong frequently walked together, discussing current affairs. Near Baeknyeonsa Temple, about a 6-minute drive away, is Dasan Chodang, where Dasan Jeong Yak-yong lived in exile and authored "Mongminsimseo."
