Temple information

Daehwasa Temple was founded by Monk Adohwasa during the reign of King Jijeung of Silla, and later rebuilt by National Preceptor Won-o, the 5th patriarch of the Jogye Order, during the Goryeo Dynasty. Daehwasa Temple is located on the mid-slope of Cheonbongsan Mountain, and until before the Korean War, it had over 10 buildings, but most of them were burnt down during the Yeosu-Suncheon Rebellion. Currently, Geungnakjeon Hall is designated as Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City Tangible Cultural Heritage No. 87, and in front of Geungnakjeon Hall, there is a stupa of National Preceptor Jajin. Nearby, the Baekmin Art Museum, Songjae Seo Jae-pil's Birthplace and Memorial Park, Juam Lake, and Dolmen Park are connected to form an educational and cultural exploration route, ensuring a steady stream of tourists throughout the year.
