Seonbonsa Temple is a directly managed temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, located below Gwanbong Peak of Palgongsan Mountain in Daehan-ri, Wachon-myeon, Gyeongsan-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do. It is more widely known by the name 'Palgongsan Gatbawi Buddha' rather than its temple name. Therefore, pilgrims constantly visit the Gatbawi Buddha, located to the east of the temple, despite the steep mountain terrain. Seonbonsa Temple is situated on the cozy foothills of Palgongsan Mountain, overlooking it from the Gatbawi Buddha. While it is rare for mountains and rivers throughout Korea not to have been Buddhist holy sites since ancient times, Palgongsan Mountain, in particular, holds a very significant position in the early period of Korean Buddhist history. Furthermore, Seonbonsa Temple operates day-trip, relaxation, and experience-type temple stays.
