Saseongam Temple is located on the peak of Osan Mountain in Jungma-ri, about 2km south of Gurye-eup. It was originally called Osanam Temple, and it is said that Master Yeon'gi first founded it in 544 (the 22nd year of King Seong's reign). It is called Saseongam Temple because four eminent monks, Great Masters Wonhyo, Doseon, Jingak, and Uisang, are said to have practiced asceticism here. Saseongam Temple, with its Yaksa-jeon Hall seemingly nestled between 20-meter-high rocks, and buildings connected by rocks and stairs, blends with the mountain to create a unique landscape. Below Yaksa-jeon Hall, the Seomjin River, Gurye-eup, and the ridgelines of Jirisan Mountain are all visible at a glance. A standing stone-carved Buddha (Maae Yeorae Ipsang) is carved into the rock wall inside the Yaksa-jeon (Yurigwang-jeon) Hall, and there is a legend that Great Master Wonhyo carved it with his fingernail. While it is possible to drive to Saseongam Temple, the parking lot is small, so parking is limited. The ways to get to Saseongam Temple are by walking or by taking a village bus. The village bus fare is 3,400 won for a round trip (2,800 won for those aged 13 and under). You can find it by searching for the village bus ticket office at the Saseongam Temple parking lot or Anjeon Unsu.
