Changnyongsa is a temple located on the mid-slope of Mt. Geumbong in Chungju, and it is said to have been founded by Great Master Wonhyo during the reign of King Munmu of Silla. It was rebuilt twice until the Joseon Dynasty and designated as a traditional temple in 1988. A legend related to the founding of Changnyongsa is passed down. In a dream of Great Master Wonhyo, who traveled nationwide practicing asceticism to spread popular Buddhism during the Silla period, a blue dragon appeared, and Changnyongsa was founded on the auspicious site where it brought a cintamani (wish-fulfilling jewel). Changnyongsa's facilities consist of the Geungnakbojeon (Hall of Supreme Bliss), Sansingak (Mountain Spirit Shrine), Yosa (monks' quarters), and so on, and inside the Geungnakbojeon, a triad of Amitabha Buddhas is enshrined. As a cultural heritage item, there is the Changnyongsa Multi-Story Blue Stone Pagoda, which was designated as Chungcheongbuk-do Cultural Heritage Material in 2006.
