Changnyongsa is a temple located on the mid-slope of Geumbongsan Mountain in Chungju, and it is said to have been founded by the Venerable Wonhyo during the reign of King Munmu of Silla. It was rebuilt twice until the Joseon Dynasty and designated as a traditional temple in 1988. Changnyongsa has a legend related to its founding. The legend states that while Venerable Wonhyo was traveling throughout the country to spread popular Buddhism during the Silla period, a blue dragon appeared in his dream and led him to a propitious site (myeongdang) carrying a wish-fulfilling jewel (yeouiju). Changnyongsa was founded on this very spot. The facilities of Changnyongsa include Geukrakbojeon (Hall of Ultimate Bliss), Sanjingak (Mountain Spirit Shrine), and Yosa (monks' living quarters), etc., and inside the Geukrakbojeon, the Amitabha Triad is enshrined. Among its cultural properties is the Multi-story Blue Stone Pagoda of Changnyongsa, designated as Chungcheongbuk-do Cultural Heritage Material in 2006.
