Changnyongsa is a temple located on the mid-slope of Geumbongsan Mountain in Chungju, and it is said to have been founded by Great Monk Wonhyo during the reign of King Munmu of Silla. It was rebuilt twice up until the Joseon Dynasty and was designated as a traditional temple in 1988. A legend related to the founding of Changnyongsa Temple is handed down. In the dream of Great Monk Wonhyo, who was traveling nationwide to spread popular Buddhism during the Silla era, a blue dragon appeared and led him to an auspicious site while holding a Cintamani (wish-granting jewel). Changnyongsa was founded at that very location. The facilities of Changnyongsa consist of Geungnakbojeon (Hall of Paradise), Sansingak (Mountain Spirit Shrine), living quarters, and more, and inside the Geungnakbojeon, Amitabha Triad statues are enshrined. Among its cultural assets is the Multi-story Bluestone Pagoda of Changnyongsa, which was designated as Chungcheongbuk-do Cultural Heritage Material in 2006.
