Bongwonsa, an ancient temple with a thousand-year history and a traditional temple, was registered as a traditional temple in 2011. In July 2014, its Amitabha Gwaebuldo (hanging painting of Amitabha Buddha) and Dharma Bell were registered as Seoul Metropolitan City Tangible Cultural Heritage. For its devotional groups, Dharma services for Gwaneumhoe, Hwaeomhoe, the Choir, and Minhwahoe are regularly held. As for its affiliated institutions, the Yeongsanjae Preservation Society, the Yeongsanjae Training Institute, the Korea Buddhist Yeongsanjae Preservation Society (an incorporated association), and Okcheon Beomeum University, a Beompae (Buddhist chant) educational institution, have been established and are in operation. Located in the city center, Bongwonsa Temple promotes Yeongsanjae, a traditional Buddhist ritual, both domestically and internationally. Furthermore, through its succession and development, it strives to maintain its status as a central temple of traditional Buddhism without impediment and to become a place for fostering Buddhist faith in daily life.
