Daeheungsa Temple

Daeheungsa Temple, located on Duryunsan Mountain, is a temple said to have been founded by Monk Ado in the 22nd year of King Seong of Baekje. In 2018, it was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site under the name "Sansa, Buddhist Mountain Monasteries in Korea." Daeheungsa is a temple where the spirit of national protection Buddhism lives on, and it was the main headquarters of the monk army led by Seosan Daesa during the Imjin War. Furthermore, Monk Choui, who believed that the truth of Buddha and the joy of meditation were all contained within tea, entered the valley of Daeheungsa, built Iljiam Hermitage, and devoted himself solely to practice for over 40 years. This led to Daeheungsa becoming a sacred site for Korea's tea culture. Daeheungsa houses the National Treasure, Seated Rock-carved Buddha in Bukmireukam Hermitage of Daeheungsa. The Seosan Daesa Relic Museum also contains artifacts such as the jade alms bowl (okbal), jadeite alms bowl (bichwi okbal) bestowed by King Seonjo, Seosan Daesa's autograph, letters (gyoja), shoes, and Buddhist scriptures written in gold and silver.
