Peaceful Serenity Temple

Anjeoksa Temple, located in Gijang-eup, Gijang-gun, Busan Metropolitan City, is a subsidiary temple (mal-sa) of Beomeosa Temple, the head temple of the 14th district of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism. Legends of asceticism involving Ven. Wonhyo and Uisang have been passed down here, and Anjeoksa has been recorded as one of the four great famous temples of Gijang-hyeon since ancient times, founded by Great Master Wonhyo of Silla. It was destroyed or abandoned until after Korea's liberation (Gwangbok) and was subsequently rebuilt, reaching its present state. Centered around the Daeungjeon (Main Hall), there are 10 buildings, including Samseonggak, Seolhyeondang, and Borimwon. The Daeungjeon (Main Hall) is a multi-eaved, hip-and-gable roof building with three bays in the front and three bays on the sides. It was built around 1990 and enshrines a seated Amitabha Buddha statue along with Bodhisattva Gwanseum (Avalokiteshvara) and Bodhisattva Daesaeji (Mahasthamaprapta).
