Eunsu Temple is a temple belonging to the Taego Order of Korean Buddhism, located in Dongchon-ri, Maryeong-myeon, Jinan-gun, Jeollabuk-do. In the early Joseon Dynasty, it was called Sangwon Temple, but it disappeared during King Sukjong's reign, leaving only its site. Afterward, a hermitage called Jeongmyeongam was built, but it fell into disrepair, and in 1920, it was rebuilt and renamed Eunsu Temple. The name Eunsu Temple originated from Yi Seong-gye's comment that the water he drank here was as clear as silver. Within the temple grounds, Daejeokgwangjeon is on the left, Muryanggwangjeon is on the right, and the nation's largest Dharma drum is in the middle. Behind them are Sanjindang and Mai Sanshingak, along with Taegeukjeon and a monks' living quarter. Within Eunsu Temple's precincts are a colony of Mai Mountain Wintercreeper and a blue pear tree, both designated as Natural Monuments. In winter, bowls are lined up under the blue pear tree to observe inverted icicles. While inverted icicles also appear in other areas of Mai Mountain, they are most distinctly observed at Eunsu Temple. Eunsu Temple is a temple that offers a unique landscape where nature and culture harmonize.
