Uhwaru at Hwaamsa Temple is a Joseon Dynasty building located at Hwaamsa Temple, at the foot of Bulmyeongsan Mountain. Uhwaru serves as the main gate of Hwaamsa Temple, situated at the entrance leading to the temple grounds and Geuknakjeon Hall. The front of Uhwaru has a two-story structure with tall pillars and a raised wooden floor, but its rear side has an ordinary single-story structure, taking the form of an elevated pavilion. This design harmonizes with the natural terrain, allowing one to glimpse the wisdom of the ancestors. At Hwaamsa Temple, in addition to Uhwaru, one can also see Geuknakjeon Hall, which is designated as a National Treasure. Geuknakjeon Hall is the only Haang-sik style building in Korea, characterized by an additional architectural component that supports the weight of the eaves, allowing them to extend further than in a typical structure through the principle of a lever.
