This is a Buddha statue located in Deokjusa Temple, an ancient temple at the foot of Wolaksan Mountain in Hansu-myeon, Jecheon-si. It was originally located at a site believed to be the former site of Jeonggeumsa Temple, but due to the construction of Chungju Dam, it was moved to its current location in April 1983. Deokjusa Temple is a branch temple of Beopjusa Temple, and it is said to have been built by Princess Deokju, daughter of King Gyeongsun of the late Silla period. The temple is surrounded by mountains, making it beautiful throughout all four seasons, and it is especially known as a famous spot for autumn foliage, with a wide, open courtyard. The Standing Bhaisajyaguru Buddha of Deokjusa Temple is partially worn, but its form is generally well-preserved. In particular, because it was buried underground for a long time, the lower part of its body is slightly damaged, but other parts, such as the drapery folds, are in good condition. On its head, there is a low and small topknot-shaped hair bun, and its face is elongated yet full. Both eyes appear slender and long, but are worn, making them difficult to distinguish. Both ears are long and extended, reaching the shoulders, and the robe is formally draped only over the left shoulder. Judging by the hand gesture, it can be identified as a Bhaisajyaguru Buddha statue. This Buddha statue has a disproportionately large head compared to its body, and the simple carving of the drapery folds on the stone surface suggests it was created in the Jecheon area during the Goryeo Dynasty. Nearby attractions include Deokjusanseong Fortress, Mireuksa Temple Site, and Songgye Valley.
