Sangwonsa is a temple located at the foot of Namdaebong Peak (1,182m) of Chiaksan Mountain, built on a stone foundation of a little over 100 pyeong. Spring water gushes from a rock crevice in front of the temple, and about 40 meters further, at the edge of a cliff, stand three rare katsura trees. The legend of the grateful pheasant, which is the origin of the name Chiaksan Mountain, began at this temple. Sangwonsa is presumed to have been founded during the Silla period, and currently, structures such as Daeungjeon, Simudang, Simgeomdang, Beomjonggak, and Sansingak are designated as cultural heritage materials. The twin pagodas follow the style of Silla stone pagodas, and their lotus bud-shaped finials possess cultural value due to their rare structure.
