Chilbulsa Temple, situated at an altitude of approximately 800m on Banyabong Peak in Jirisan Mountain, is said to have been named Chilbulsa (Seven Buddhas Temple) because the seven princes of King Suro, the founder of the Gaya Kingdom (which was centered in the Gimhae region along the Nakdong River basin in the early Three Kingdoms period and is the progenitor of today's Gimhae Kim clan), came here to undergo spiritual training and all attained enlightenment. Chilbulsa Temple, which grew to become a central temple of Gaya Buddhism, became even more famous about 1,100 years ago during the reign of King Hyogong of Silla when the Ajabang (亞字房) hall was built, which was said to retain its warmth for 100 days after just one firing. However, it was lost due to war and was rebuilt in 1978 by Grand Seon Master Jeweoldang Tonggwang.
