Temple information

Woljeongsa Jeokmyeolbogung is a place where the true sarira of the Buddha is enshrined. Jeokmyeolbogung means a precious palace where the mind remains unshaken by all external boundaries and is free from worldly afflictions. It represents the state of the Buddha, where there is no suffering because there is no greed, anger, or ignorance. A characteristic feature of Jeokmyeolbogung is that, because the Buddha's true sarira is enshrined there, no separate Buddha statue is installed inside the hall, only an altar. This Jeokmyeolbogung stands majestically in the center, encircled by mountain ranges flowing down from Birobong Peak like a folding screen. It is an auspicious site that some describe as a dragon playing with a wish-fulfilling jewel (Yeouiju), and it has also been an object of admiration for many.
