Neungin Seonwon, located at the foot of Guryongsan Mountain, was established as a spiritual training center (suhaeng doryang) for nurturing Buddhists, spreading the dharma, and promoting social welfare, based on the Buddha's teachings of wisdom and compassion. Neungin Seonwon, which has consistently focused on spreading Buddhist teachings and fostering devout practitioners, has now become the preeminent temple for dharma propagation in South Korea. "Neungin" (能仁) is another name for Shakyamuni Buddha, meaning one who is capable of enlightening and benefiting others. Neungin Seonwon is the only place in Seoul where the true sarira (relics) of Shakyamuni Buddha himself are enshrined, and it is also home to the world's largest Bhaisajyaguru Buddha (the Buddha of healing illnesses). Furthermore, it boasts the largest indoor dharma hall in Korea. It offers easy-to-understand Buddhist lectures for the general public.
